Yamas and Niyamas

There is a massive pile of yoga homework I need to catch up on. When I say massive, think 6 months of homework left undone. One of the assignments is to do a practice of the Yamas and Niyamas. Basically take one a week, apply it to my life and then write about it. The Yamas and Niyamas are principles/moral guidelines for yoga philosophy. So here they are:

The Yamas include:

Ahimsa ~ Nonviolence
Satya ~ Truthfulness
Asteya ~ Nonstealing
Brahmacharya ~ Nonexcess
Aparigraha ~ Nonpossessiveness

And the Niyamas include:

Saucha ~ Purity
Santosha ~ Contentment
Tapas ~ Self-discipline
Svadhyaya ~ Self-study
Ishvara Pranidhana ~ Surrender

I should be starting with Nonviolence, which is typically the yama attributied to vegetarianism, but I haven't had a strict vegetarian diet this week. Maybe I'll skip to the next truthfulness, and write that all down from the past few days and continue.

Life application, go.
