Growing Pains and Ice

I had my first bad run last night, and by bad run I mean 2 miles of cramping in my right calf and shin pain. End of the world? No. Annoying and frustrating? yes. This isn't my first bad run and it won't be my last. I know this, it is part of the mental game that I have with running. I was complaining about my run to Switzer last night. Well, mostly trying to find something to blame my bad run on: dehydration, earlier activites, etc. But the truth is he was right when he said "growing pains, you're fine".

Growing pains it is. I know this, but it's hard to accept sometimes that your bad run is merely just part of becoming a better running. That's why running for me has always been more about the mental challenges: getting out of bed, keeping a pace, finishing strong, building that mileage.

Last night was a reminder that running and everything else takes work. Shine pain is easily solved by icing, and calf cramps with walk/running until they pass. Just have to remember that ice is my new best friend.

As I continue my transition back to running I imagine this blog will become more running focused and less about yoga. That said I do have yoga teacher training this weekend, and a run scheduled. So for now, I'm working on finding balance.
